On October 9th, British-Nepali mountaineer Nimsdai Purja, a former Gurkha and UK Special Forces soldier, reached the summit of Shishapangma for the second time in just 5 days. This incredible achievement marked his 50th ascent of the world’s highest “Death Zone” peaks, setting a new milestone in the world of mountaineering.
Just days earlier, on October 4th, Nims stood on the summit of Shishapangma alongside the legendary Nepali climber Mingma G. Together, they completed their 14 Peaks No Oxygen missions. Nims became the fastest person ever to climb all 14 peaks over 8,000m without supplemental oxygen, accomplishing this feat in just 2 years, 4 months, and 28 days—all while leading and guiding clients.
Moreover, Nims is the fastest (and only) person to have summited all 14 peaks both with and without oxygen, achieving this remarkable record in just 5 years, 5 months, and 12 days (from April 23, 2019, to October 4, 2024).
